Build From Your Own Plans — CNC-Cut Steel, Aluminium & FRP

A growing share of the enquiries reaching our desk begin the same way: the owner already holds the design. A licensed stock plan, a commissioned one-off, sometimes a completed CNC cutting-file package — what they need is not a designer but a disciplined yard. This page explains exactly how an owner-supplied build runs.

In Brief

Yes — you can build a boat from your own plans in Indonesia. Indonesia Yacht Builder accepts owner-supplied designs from independent naval architects and turns them into CNC-cut, classed hulls in steel, aluminium or FRP at our Bali and East Java yards. Stock steel designs such as the Bruce Roberts PCF 40 arrive as complete cutting files and move from plan review to first plate in weeks; one-off designs pass an engineering and class review first. Send your drawings to [email protected] or WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563 for a build quotation.

01 — What we need from you

The drawing package, item by item

If your package has only paper drawings, our engineering partners produce the nesting and cutting files from the scantling set, and the designer signs off the lofting before any plate is cut.

02 — How a kit build runs

From cutting files to classed hull

From Cutting Files to Classed Hull

The kit-build sequence is deliberately front-loaded. First, a plan review: our engineers and the classification surveyor read the structural schedule against Bureau Veritas or RINA rules and flag anything that needs the designer’s input — before money moves. Second, material procurement with mill certificates matched to the drawings. Third, CNC plasma cutting of the full plate set, nested for minimum waste, with every part labelled to the assembly sequence. From there the build follows the same surveyed stages as any of our projects: framing, plating, welding with mapped inspection, blasting and coating, systems installation, launch and sea trials. Owners receive the same technical file — weld maps, ultrasonic records, coating certificates — as a yard-designed vessel.

Steel kit designs are the most common package we receive, and the economics explain why: designs like the Roberts PCF 40 exist precisely so that a certified fabrication yard anywhere in the world can build them faithfully from the cutting files. Our steel program at Lamongan is organized for exactly this work. Aluminium kits run through the Tanjung Benoa alloy bay, and composite one-offs are assessed case by case against our FRP program tooling logic.

Why Owners Bring Plans to Indonesia

The arithmetic is straightforward: proven design + certified low-overhead fabrication = a classed vessel at a build cost European and Australian yards cannot match. The design fee is already spent; what remains is fabrication labour, materials and survey — and Indonesian yard rates put more of the budget into plate, machinery and outfit instead of overhead. Owners keep design control and designer support, while the yard contributes the welding certifications, class relationships and project management that turn a file set into a launched vessel. If you have not yet fixed a material, the comparison in steel vs aluminium vs FRP is the place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you build from Bruce Roberts, Dix or Van de Stadt stock plans?

Yes. Stock designs from established naval architects are the cleanest packages we receive — proven hulls, complete scantlings and, in most cases, ready CNC cutting files. We verify your plan license, confirm the class notation target and quote against the actual file set.

Do I need my own CNC cutting files?

No. If your package is drawings only, we generate the nesting and cutting files from the scantling set through our engineering partners, with designer sign-off before cutting. Complete file packages simply shorten the path to first plate.
