Why FRP Dominates Under 30 Metres

Molded construction is fast, geometrically repeatable and immune to corrosion. There is no plate audit, no coating cycle, no anode ledger — an FRP owner’s maintenance list is antifoul, polish and periodic through-hull inspection, the shortest of any hull material. Build economics follow the same logic: laminating proceeds in parallel with interior joinery in a way sequential metal fabrication cannot, which is why our FRP builds deliver in 12–20 months against 18–30 for aluminium and 24–36 for steel.

The honest limits are equally plain. Point-impact resistance is below metal, structural repairs need a composite-capable shop rather than any harbor welder, and one-off tooling above roughly 30 metres rarely makes financial sense. Inside its band, though, FRP is not a compromise — it is the correct engineering answer.

Laminate Engineering, Not Just Layup

The difference between a composite yacht and a composite problem is the laminate schedule. Ours are engineered to classification-society rules and built with vinylester barrier coats against osmosis, biaxial and unidirectional reinforcements oriented along real load paths, and cored sandwich construction in decks and superstructure for stiffness without weight. Resin infusion is used where geometry rewards it — large flat panels, hulls with consistent thickness — producing higher fiber fractions and void-free laminate at verified resin ratios. Hand layup remains legitimate for complex local detail; the schedule states which method applies where, and the surveyor checks it.

The Charter-Fleet Advantage

Operators standardizing a fleet gain twice from molded construction. Tooling cost amortizes across sister vessels, so the second and third hulls price materially below the first; and identical systems across the fleet mean crews train once, spares inventory shrinks and refit windows compress. For Indonesian day-charter and dive operations replacing ageing wooden tonnage, a semi-custom FRP series is usually the strongest commercial case we can put on the table.
